Having trouble with your PC's performance? Disabling unnecessary background apps might help. Here's how you can manage them on Windows 11.
Method 1: From Settings
- Right-click the Windows icon and select Settings or press Windows Key + I.
- On the left side, click on Apps, then navigate to Installed Apps.
- Find the app for which you want to change background permissions and click the three dots next to its name. Then, click on Advanced options.
- Under the "Background app permissions" section, you'll see the "Let this app run in the background" option. Use the drop-down menu to select "Never" to turn it off, or "Always" or "Power Optimized" to turn it on.
Note: This method applies to Microsoft Store apps.
Method 2: From Group Policy Editor
Disable Background Apps for all users with the Group Policy Editor:
- Press Windows Key + R to open Run, type gpedit.msc, and hit Enter.
- Navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > App Privacy.
- Double-click on the "Let Windows apps run in the background" policy in the right pane.
- Select the "Disabled" option, then click Apply and OK.
