Ventoy is an open-source tool that allows you to create a bootable USB drive for ISO, WIM, IMG, VHD(x), and EFI files. With Ventoy, you can simply copy image files to the USB drive and boot them without needing to format the disk repeatedly. Here's a step-by-step guide to get you started.
Step 1: Download Ventoy
- Open your browser and search for "Ventoy."
- Visit the official website ventoy.net and download the tool.
- Extract the ZIP file.
Step 2: Prepare Your USB Drive
- Insert your USB drive into your computer.
- Open Ventoy2Disk.exe.
Step 3: Select and Format Device
- In the Ventoy2Disk interface, under the "Device" section, select the USB drive you want to install Ventoy on.
- Be aware that your drive will be completely formatted.
- Click "Install" to install Ventoy on your USB drive.
Step 4: Copy ISO Files
- After installation, copy your ISO files (e.g., Windows 10/11 ISO, Linux Debian 12 ISO) to the Ventoy USB drive.
- When you boot from the USB drive, you'll see a menu with all the ISO files you copied.
Creating Ventoy HDD or SSD
- If your HDD or SSD is already connected to your PC, open Ventoy2Disk.
- Click on "Option Menu" then "Show All Devices."
- Under the "Device" section, select the HDD or SSD you want to install Ventoy on. Note that the drive will be completely formatted.
Partition Configuration
- By default, Ventoy uses MBR partition style and exFAT file system.
- You can change this from the "Option Menu" under "Partition Style" and "Partition Configuration."
- You can also preserve space at the end of the disk for other partitions or data storage.
Tips for Using Ventoy
- Data Storage: You can use the same Ventoy disk for data storage, and Ventoy will automatically list all supported files in the boot menu.
- Organizing Files: Create folders for OS ISO files, programs, etc. If there's an ISO file you don't want to appear in the boot menu, add a file named .ventoyignore in that ISO file's folder.
Booting and Installing OS
- Download the ISO file for the desired OS.
- Copy and paste it to the Ventoy drive.
- Boot from the Ventoy drive and install the OS. It works with both Legacy BIOS and UEFI.
Exiting Ventoy Boot Menu
- Press C to open the grub shell.
- Type reboot to restart or halt to shut down the computer.
Updating Ventoy
- Download the new version of Ventoy.
- Open the tool, select the device, and click "Update." Ventoy will retain the device's configurations.
With Ventoy, creating a multiboot USB drive, HDD, or SSD is quick and efficient. Happy booting!
