Virtualization is a crucial feature that allows you to run multiple operating systems and applications on a single physical machine. Whether you're an avid gamer, a software developer, or just someone looking to optimize their PC's performance, knowing if your CPU supports virtualization can open up a world of possibilities. In this article, we'll guide you through the steps to check virtualization support on both AMD and Intel CPUs.
Virtualization Support on AMD CPU
To determine if your AMD CPU supports virtualization, follow these steps:
- Download the AMD-V Detection Utility: You can find the download link on the official AMD website.
- Extract the ZIP file: Right-click on the ZIP file for the utility and select "Extract All."
- Run the Utility: Open the extracted folder, right-click on the EXE file for the AMD-V Detection Utility, and select "Run as administrator."
- Check Virtualization Status: The utility will notify you about the status of virtualization on your PC. For instance, it will indicate if your PC supports virtualization.
Virtualization Support on Intel CPU
To check if your Intel CPU supports virtualization, follow these steps:
- Download and Install the Intel Processor Identification Utility: Visit the official Intel website to download the utility.
- Launch the Utility: Once installed, click on the utility's icon to open it on your PC.
- Navigate to CPU Technologies: Click on the "CPU Technologies" tab.
- Verify Virtualization Support: A drop-down menu will appear. If there is a tick mark before "Intel Virtualization Technology," then virtualization is supported on your PC.
Note: If Intel® Virtualization Technology is not checked in the tool, your processor might be able to still supports Intel® Virtualization Technology because it is already being used by some other software which uses a Hypervisor.
