How To Convert GPT to MBR

The methods discussed in this article are ideal for converting GPT to MBR for Data Disks or Storage Disks, but they will result in data loss. Method 1: Convert GPT to MBR Disk with Disk Management (Data will be Lost)

Open Disk Management:

  • Right-click on the "Start Menu" or press Windows + X, and choose "Disk Management".

Identify the Disk:

  • Identify the disk you want to convert. For example, Disk 1.

Delete Partitions:

  • Right-click the partitions on your target disk one by one and choose "Delete Volume". This will delete all the data on that partition.

Convert to MBR:

  • When your disk becomes empty (shows as unallocated space), right-click on the disk and choose "Convert to MBR Disk".

Method 2: Convert GPT to MBR Using DiskPart Tool (Data will be Lost)

Open Command Prompt:

  • Go to the Start Menu or search bar and type "cmd".
  • Right-click on Command Prompt and choose "Run As Administrator".

Launch DiskPart:

  • Type diskpart, then hit enter.
  • Type list disk, then hit enter. Identify the disk you want to convert (e.g., Disk 1).
  • Type select disk 1, then hit enter. Adjust the disk number as necessary.

Clean the Disk:

  • Type clean, then hit enter. This will delete all partitions and data from the selected disk.

Convert to MBR:

  • Type convert mbr, then hit enter.
  • Type exit, then hit enter to close DiskPart.

Close Command Prompt:

  • Finally, close the Command Prompt window.
